At the beginning of XX century, in a few years were
built: the bath house on the Viale delle Terme, the porch
large room, the Grand Hotel, the plant for bottled mineral
water, the Casino, the Town hall and several private
mansions, that were extraordinary examples of Liberty Art.
With their expert hands, famous artists, such as the
engineer Mazzocchi, the architect Romolo Squadrelli, the
blacksmith Mazzucotelli, the window maker Beltrami, the
cabinet maker Quarti and the sculptor Vedani worked to these
mansions. The Gran Casinò is an interesting example of
Flowery Liberty Style at European level. The internal part
has a unique and involving beauty, with its huge hall where
we find eight Verona red marble columns, that seem having
been put as guards or seem inviting towards the awesome and
monumental stairway that hosts art masterworks of
spectacular beauty.
The internal decorations, the mosaics, the balustrades, the
doors were studied and designed with great perfection and
refined elegance by the famous architect Romolo Squadrelli.
The sculptor Paolo Vedani realized the four allegorical
groups, while the imposing pillars that hold the artistic
chandeliers were the creative products of Mazzucotelli.
The 12 ceiling panels that are symbols of the 12 months,
made by Malerba, have a wonderful effect and are of
admirable execution, as well as the stucco altorilievo,
decorated by Bernasconi. Everything is in perfect syntony
and harmonized in an artistic choralism that contributes to
this complex and makes it a rare work of art.
On the left and on the right of the hall there are 2 rooms
with ceilings in precious carved wood with golden and
bronze decorations. The big stairway leads to the first
floor where we find some large rooms among which the Salone
delle Feste.
A figure velarium by Beltrami, multicoloured glasses with
thousand hues, artistic chandeliers of refined elegance
make this large room one of the most majestic of that style,
in Italy and in Europe. The Municipal Casino of San
Pellegrino Terme welcomes nowadays cultural events,
performances, as well as meetings, conventions, seminars,
wedding parties, gala dinners and soirées, fashion shows and
also art exhibitions.
However, the charm of this place hits also the simple
visitor who is enchanted, out of the beauty and grandeur of
the set.
